Gap Fold Lattice Card

I was asked to make a card for a very special person! With this task, I wanted to make sure I created something unique—something I never made before. I put together two of my favorite types of cards and see what would happen: The Gap Fold card and the Lattice card.

Something Different

I thought this came out very nice and I’m excited to pass this piece along to the person whom it’s for. I hope they enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it! It’s definitely a pattern I plan to use again in the very near future!

How to make the Gap Fold Lattice Card

  • Start with an 8”x6” piece of cardstock folded in half. Now you have a folded 6”x 4” card.

  • Cut out the center section of the card 1” and 3” inches down (Set aside the center section for later).

  • Cut out several 5” x 1/4” pieces of cardstock with a different pattern to create the lattice.

  • Lay out the first 8 strips diagonally across the front of the card. Add a dab of glue to the top of each strip and press the top fold of the card down over the strips.

  • Add more dabs of glue on the bottom strips and glue the original bottom piece to the strips.

  • Add a final strip to the far left in the same direction to close the gap.

  • Now start weaving in additional strips over and under in the opposite direction. Don’t add more glue just yet. Simply focus on placement.

  • Once everything is in it’s place, add glue to the tip of an additional strip and begin to slip glue beneath the loose strips.

  • Glue from the inside of the card too.

  • Once everything is secure cut the excess pieces of the trellis off.

  • Glue a 6”x4” piece of acetate to the front right along the edge (Don’t worry about the glue that will show through. It will be covered).

  • Cut quarter inch strips with the leftover paper that was set aside earlier. Glue the onto the front and inside of the card covering up the glued areas of the acetate. Add any additional strips as necessary.

  • Next cut a 6”x4” piece of printer paper out and glue it to the inside fold so that any writing will not show through the lattice.
  • Now to decorate: I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out some designs and the word Hello. I also added a variety of craft drops to add some dimension.

  • Now the card is complete!

I hope this was a fun one for you. I can’t wait for its new owner to receive it!

Enjoy <3 Daniela
