Pop and Twist Card

A tutorial with a card in motion!

This is one of my favorite type of cards to make! All you need are three cuts of cardstock, a few easy folds and some glue. Then you can immediately go into decorating!

Today I wanted to make this design into a Thanksgiving card. I am sending this to some very special people out of state and I know it will be a real treat for them!

  1. Start with 11”x 4” and an 11”x3” pieces of cardstock
  2. Fold both pieces in half right down the center. Set the 11”x4” piece aside.

     3. Fold the end of the 11”x3” piece into the center point as shown:

        4. Now cut out an additional 8”x3” piece of cardstock. Fold it in half from top to bottom and side to side.

        5. Mark 2.5” and 5.5” on top and bottom.

        6. Now fold diagonally from the 2.5” mark to the 5.5” mark on both sides.

        7. Create the folds as shown so that it looks identical on both sides.

        8. Now glue each side of the triangular section onto the central point of the 11”x4” part of the card. Close the card tightly and              reopen it. Your pop and twist mechanism should be attached to the card now.

 9. Bring your 11”x 3” piece over the center of the mechanism and fold each flap back. Very carefully add glue to only the bottom left and top right section of the mechanism. Pull the flaps back over the glued section and wait for it to dry. Once dried, create the peaks and valleys on the 11”x3” piece as shown. Your card should be able to pop and twist while opening and closing now!

Let’s Decorate!

  1.  I cut out several panels of brown specialty paper to adhere to various sections of the card.

  2.  Then I went on Freepik.com to print out a bunch of Thanksgiving clipart to attach to the tops of the panels.

3. I used a “Happy Thanksgiving” Stamp on an additional piece of paper for the front of the card and added several orange glitter dots.

4. Once everything was glued into place I took some clear drops to add dimension to various parts of the clip art. Then I used to brown twine to make my bow on the top.

5. Now the card is complete and ready to pop and twist out of state to its new home!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
