This card fold tutorial is a little tricky but with some patience you can create a beautiful card. These days, it doesn’t seem too difficult to find someone who is struggling with something in their life or someone who is unwell.
Sometimes sending something unexpected with a pop of surprise can help make someone smile when they’re not feeling the greatest.
That’s why I like this card. It looks interesting from the outside but it becomes something like a burst of surprise from the inside.
Let’s get started!
1. Start with a 11” x 11” piece of card stock.
2. Score at 2 ¾ and 8 ¼ from top to bottom and right to left.
3. Now fold the corners into the center of the card.
4. This is the trickiest part: Open up the entire card and fold the outside edges into peaks and valleys around the center square fold of the card like this:
5. You can either stop and start decorating your card at this point or add an additional fold to turn your card into a rectangle instead of a square. I chose this option for my card because, although the square version is beautiful, I didn’t have an appropriately sized envelope. The rectangle version is much easier to find an envelope for.
6. For the belt: I used a 12” x 1” piece of card stock and wrapped it around the card to determine where to glue the ends so that the belt would fit snugly but not too tight.
Let’s Decorate!
I used a lighter weight paper and my scalloped square die to cut out several squares.
Then I used a guillotine paper cutter to cut each square in half corner to corner to create a bunch of triangles.
3. Next, I glued the triangle shapes onto each triangle fold of the card stock and cut 2 additional rectangular folds to add to the center square of the card (2 pieces to compensate for the fold in the middle).
4. After this, I glued on some Silver Petals Gemstones by Nuvo to add a little more interest.
Decorating the belt:
I embossed the entire belt using my favorite embossing folder.
Then I grabbed some of my favorite shape dies (a scalloped square and a glittery heart to overlap it with.
I printed out my “Get Well Soon” message on my Dymo label maker and used a smaller scalloped square die to create another square shape.
4. Once the center piece layers were attached and glued to the belt, I added a couple additional gemstones and slid it over the top of the card and down to the center.
5. Now my card was complete and ready to be shipped off!
