Stars are always a great addition to the Fall season! After learning how to make 3D stars I have never turned back. Depending on how you choose to decorate them and what colors you use, this is a project that can be used year round!
Every Fall season the 3D stars come out complimenting the rest of my living room décor amongst the pumpkins, gourds and leaves. The great news is that they are actually very easy and inexpensive to make!
All you really need is a paper cutout of a 5-sided star. Add several folds from top to bottom and voila!
I have a set of three solid black 3D stars I keep that poke out through the foliage on my mantel. Having used them for years, I decided to add a little more color to my collection this year. I went with some orange and yellow cardstock and added some flashy sentiments to complete the project!
My holiday collections grow year after year. Yes, it is getting a little ridiculous – but I believe new additions always help define the current season. I like to surprise my guests with my newest creations each year.
So this year, some updated 3D stars will become part of the latest and greatest!
Tutorial
I started with a piece of orange cardstock and cut out a symmetrical 5-sided star on my Silhouette Cameo. This is my preferred way to go, but if you don’t have a Silhouette Cameo, no worries! Cutting out a star that is printed out on paper will work the same! I recommend experimenting on a piece of printer paper first. Once you’ve got the technique down, move onto your favorite cardstock!
Next, score a line from point to point and from corner to corner. There will be 5 scores total (but it will look like 8 smaller scored lines).
Time to fold. Fold half of each scored line up (like a peak) and the other half of each score down (like a valley). Do this all the way around the star until each score has a fold. Now you have a 3D star!
Let’s Decorate
I decided to use some gemstones. Then I added some black, yellow and glitter crystal drops to complete the project!
I also made an additional star in yellow cardstock in a smaller size made in the exact same way.
These have turned out to be a great addition to my coffee table collection this year!
